Dear Sherri: Given that changing doctors often makes more challenges, it’s usually best to try and hammer out a good working relationship with the one you have rather than switching …provided that he/she is suited for the job. One of the most effective ways to engage physicians is to have a list of 3-5 pressing issues or questions prepared before the appointment. Look at it as a professional meeting that requires an agenda with well-defined objectives for the meeting, and clear action steps following the meeting.  Also, dress appropriately for the meeting.  Showing up in “Daisy Dukes” and a “Van Halen” t-shirt sends the wrong message. You don’t have to wear a suit, but wear attire that signals you are taking the meeting seriously.
